What better way to kick off Wild Fig in 2018 than by learning something about a new emerging technology which is redefining the way we transact?

At our first meeting of the year, we lucky to have local, global expert John Underwood come along to enlighten us about this far-reaching technology. John is often described as a serial entrepreneur having started a number of different businesses throughout his life. Everything from commercial prawner, to IT specialist recruiter to establishing successful IT and Internet companies in Australia, Asia and New York.

In his early 20’s John started his career in the IT industry having worked for a number of prestigious companies such as NCR and Prime, working with the founders of those businesses in Australia, which gave him first hand insight into what it takes to start a serious business. He was then appointed CEO of Sun Microsystems, with a brief to establish their presence in Australia. That started John’s passion for building businesses.

In the late 80’s he founded and grew Pacific Partners, an Australian Technology and consulting company that reached across Asia delivering mission critical systems to such corporate icons, as BHP, Dow Chemicals, Dupont, Alcan, ANZ Bank, Singapore Government, Hong Kong Jockey Club and many, many more.

As the Internet emerged in the mid-nineties John partnered up with the New York City Investment Fund and enjoyed the support of David Rockefeller, Henry Kravis, Jerry Chasen, Henry (Hank) Poulson as well as Al Waxman and other notable New York icons.

At this meeting, John’s focus was on exploding the potential of commercialising unregulated blockchain networks, while respecting the tenets of regulatory compliance, a paradox and space where innovation and lateral thought has led to extraordinary innovation.

Fantastic first meeting of the year. Thanks, John!
